Monkey of the Month: Noah

By Amber Zorn, Primate Caretaker

Noah was a former pet who was surrendered to the sanctuary in 2020 with his groupmate Maddie. He was small and still a juvenile, trying to figure out where he belonged. Noah has been able to watch the other males we have at the sanctuary, interact with them from a distance, and learn how to be a strong, playful, and well-adjusted monkey.

Noah is one of our only monkeys who likes to fully submerge himself into water and swim. He also loves when we spray water and he can put his hands and tongue in it. Noah’s playful side is a joy for us caregivers and we have fun as well! We also enjoy watching him interact with Maddie, grooming her, and playing with her.

Noah also has a knack for stuffing as much food as he can in his cheek pouches. When you think he can’t fit anymore, he adds yet another piece, sometimes looking like he’s carrying a tennis ball on each side. Noah has been one of our most interesting monkeys to get to know as he keeps us on our toes. For example, he became very skilled in removing carabiners that caregivers would use to attach enrichment to his enclosure. This resulted in staff needing to remove all the carabiners within reach and replacing them with locks.

We are honored to be able to care for Noah and his groupmate Maddie! They have both come a long way from when they arrived at the sanctuary and we have loved watching them blossom like a flower into their true selves!
