Volunteer Spotlight: Justine Fowler

My name is Justine Fowler, soon to be Williamson.  I live in Madison, WI with my fiancé Carl. We have two rescue pups both four years old.  Barry is a Basset Hound and Pointer mix. Fox is a Border Collie and Shiba Innu mix. We also have three cats, Lloyd, Ashe and Daisy.

For my second birthday my grandfather gave me a giant stuffed Orangutan, which spurred my love and curiosity for primates.  I would read every book about primates I could find. I wanted to be Jane Goodall when I grew up and my dream was to travel to Borneo to help with the Orangutan efforts there.  Instead, as I grew older, I followed my passion for design. When I heard about Primates Inc. I knew it was my chance to be able to help and be a part of something that is very important to me.

I have been volunteering with Primates Inc. for over a year and a half.  I help with anything I can, and regularly participate in Animal Care which includes cleaning their rooms and preparing their meals and enrichments.

During my short time with Primates Inc. I have learned a lot about what the different behaviors of the primates mean and how much work and effort it really takes to build and maintain a sanctuary such as this.  I have found out first-hand, whether they are from a research lab or someone’s home, how essential sanctuaries are to the future and well-being of these primates.

Thank you Justine! We are grateful for your volunteer work and generosity!
