There’s a Reason For Every

Letter In The Alphabet

To Support Primates Inc!

Read Below

is for Advocacy.

The monkeys are overlooked. Primates Incorporated spreads awareness about the need to help monkeys from labs and the pet trade.

is for Buildings.

We have and need innovative buildings. We are continuously contacted to provide sanctuary to monkeys from laboratories. We need to expand in order to help more.

is for Care.

We provide quality daily care to the monkeys. Our veterinarian team regularly inspects our facilities and provides physical examinations the monkeys.

is for Donations.

All donations are tax deductible as allowed by law, and greatly appreciated!

is for Education.

We provide free education about primate care and behavior to volunteers.

is for Friends.

We know that socialization is an effective form of rehabilitation. Our behavioral program assesses behavior between the monkeys so that a dominant and submissive monkey can be paired successfully with minimal to no injury.

is for Grapes.

The monkeys get a variety of fruits and vegetables each day. Grapes and bananas are their favorite fruits!

is for Housing.

We aim to provide multiple environments we call ‘bedrooms’ for the monkeys to travel between. Since they cannot be released to the wild where they travel and forage, it is up to us to provide them with traveling opportunities.

is for Innovation.

We strive to go above and beyond federal and sanctuary guidelines in an effort to provide the monkeys with multiple environments, socialization opportunities, enrichment, and natural diets.

is for Jungle gyms.

We construct climbing structures for the monkeys so they can climb and rest on them in their enclosures.

is for Love.

We truly love what we do.

is for Monkeys.

Chimpanzees are being helped by our hero Jane Goodall and friends. Monkeys, however, are largely overlooked and so our focus is helping Old World Monkeys.

is for Numbers.

Did you know thousands of monkeys are living in labs nationwide? More researchers are wanting to send them to sanctuaries, but currently there is no federal funding available. The cost per year to care for one monkey is $10,000.

Additionally, thousands of monkeys are also bought and sold in the pet trade. They are wild animals and can become dangerous as they age. Many wind up at sanctuaries which leaves less room for monkeys from labs.

Monkeys To Become New Residents
at Primates Incorporated

is for the great Outdoors.

We provide enriching outdoor environments during the nice Wisconsin weather. In the winter, the monkeys can enter the greenhouse enclosures.

is for Primates.

Chimps aren’t monkeys – they’re apes. But apes and monkeys are, interestingly, both primates! Primates fall into five groups: 1) great apes, which include chimpanzees, bonobos, and gorillas; 2) small-bodied apes, like the gibbon; 3) Old World monkeys, such as the rhesus macaques at Primates Inc; 4) New World monkeys, like the spider monkey; and 5) prosimians, which include lemurs.

is for peaceful Quiet.

Everyone who volunteers and visits the sanctuary comments on how peaceful and quiet it is. The location near Westfield, WI is secluded and calming – perfect for the monkeys.

is for often-overlooked Rhesus macaque monkeys.

Rhesus monkeys are one of the most common species of monkeys still being used in laboratories. We believe the least we can do is help this species and other monkeys from labs whenever possible and that funding should be set aside for their long-term care.

is for Staff.

We take pride in providing quality care to the monkeys. We have an extensive training program for incoming staff. Our management team has prior experience in caring for monkeys and takes pride in coming up with innovative methods to keep the monkeys happy and healthy. The staff also share their knowledge about primate care and behavior with incoming volunteers.

is for Technology.

We utilize many forms of technology to keep the sanctuary going, including on-site video cameras, iPads, and computers. Staff always enjoy seeing the daily email, which discusses the primary events of the day and often includes fun monkey stories.

is for United.

Primates Incorporated is a member of the North American Primate Sanctuary Alliance (NAPSA). NAPSA’s mission is to UNITE the primate sanctuary community, build capacity to provide sanctuary for captive nonhuman primates, and advocate to eliminate primate exploitation. NAPSA members are licensed and inspected by the United States Department of Agriculture (or its Canadian equivalent), licensed by relevant state and county authorities, and either fully accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries or certified by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums.

is for Volunteer.

Our volunteer program is invaluable to the sanctuary. Volunteers help staff with animal care, assessing monkey behavior, crafting, maintenance tasks, landscaping, and fundraising.

is for Welfare.

Through our primate behavioral observation and enrichment program, we work to reduce and ultimately eliminate any abnormal behaviors in our monkey residents, which is a sign of improved welfare. More specifically, we identify and eliminate triggers of abnormal behavior. We also provide the monkeys enrichment, medication, and socialization opportunities.

is for X-rays.

We are raising funds to construct our next sanctuary building, which will include a medical room. The medical room will have a variety of machines, including an X-Ray machine.

is for You.

We couldn’t do this without you. It is up to you to help them. Sadly there is no federal funding available to help monkeys from labs and the pet trade.

is for Zoo.

We are not a zoo. We do not breed monkeys or sell them. We are here to provide care to monkeys in need. We are a sanctuary and rely on community support to care for the monkeys.

If you agree with one or more of these reasons, please support our efforts!
