Since Mother Nature provided snow last week, we decided to give the monkeys a literal last taste of winter by mixing the fresh snow with a favored treat of theirs – peanuts. Here is a close-up of River finding his goodies. While this may seem a bit odd – few things are more important than keeping such smart, curious animals engaged and inquisitive in their captive environment. We do this by giving them unique experiences, that commonly involve searching for food since wild rhesus macaques forage for nearly 50% of their day.
We look forward to coming up with more creative ways to engage our monkeys while working with what mother nature offers us!
